Accent Lighting Principles
Contrast ratio
Effective accent lighting uses a contrast ratio between feature and ambient light — typically 3:1 for subtle emphasis up to 10:1 or more for dramatic focus on a hero product or artwork.
Beam angle and aiming
- Narrow (10°-24°): tight accent on a single product, sculpture or framed work.
- Medium (25°-40°): shelf sections, display tables, grouped merchandise.
- Wide (40°+): wall-wash for backdrops and large panels.
Colour quality for galleries and retail
Specify CRI≥90 (ideally CRI≥95 with strong R9 for reds) so fabrics, artwork and merchandise render true. Choose 3000K for warm retail and hospitality, 4000K for a crisp contemporary gallery look. Where UV/IR-sensitive works are displayed, use LED heads with negligible UV and low heat.
Control
