Warehouses, distribution centres and industrial halls demand lighting that is bright, uniform, energy-efficient and virtually maintenance-free across large floor areas and high ceilings. Continuous linear trunking systems have become the preferred solution — a single carrier rail delivers power and support for continuous rows of high-output LED modules. YNDLUX manufactures linear trunking systems delivering up to 165 lm/W, direct from our factory in China to industrial contractors and lighting designers worldwide. This guide covers designing high-bay warehouse and industrial lighting with linear trunking.
Why Linear Trunking for Warehouses and Industry
- Continuous uniform light: unbroken rows eliminate the dark patches that separate individual fittings — critical for aisle safety and barcode scanning.
- 165 lm/W efficiency: high efficacy cuts energy cost and connected load across large areas.
- Fast installation: a pre-wired trunking rail lets modules click in, slashing labour on big projects.
- Serviceable and upgradeable: modules swap out individually — a sustainable, future-proof design that avoids full re-fits.
Designing High-Bay and Warehouse Lighting
Mounting height and optics
Warehouse ceilings commonly run 6-12m. Match optics to height:
- Narrow/aisle optics: concentrate light down tall racking aisles for vertical illuminance on shelf faces.
- Wide optics: open floor areas, packing and dispatch zones needing broad horizontal coverage.
Target light levels
- Storage / racking aisles: 100-200 lux
- Picking and packing: 300-500 lux
- Loading docks: 150-300 lux
- Prioritise vertical illuminance on racking, not just floor lux.
Uniformity and glare
Continuous rows give high uniformity (U0), reducing eye fatigue as staff move between bright and dark zones. Specify appropriate shielding for forklift operators who look upward.
Controls and Energy Savings
Pair linear trunking with DALI-2 addressable drivers and occupancy/daylight sensors: aisles dim to a low background level when empty and boost to full output on presence detection. In intermittently occupied warehouses this cuts lighting energy 40-60% on top of the LED efficacy gain.
